About the role#
As a Co-Op on the Production Robotics team, you will build algorithms and software that allow robots to navigate and interpret their environment within our AI Science Factories. You will work at the intersection of state estimation, computer vision, and robotics software. Your daily work involves a mix of writing production-quality code, applying math to sensor data, and debugging robot behavior. You will work alongside robotics, software, and AI engineers to ship code that runs in production lab environments.
What you'll do#
- Fuse multi-sensor data to improve mobile base state estimation.
- Build camera-based AprilTag and instrument detection for robot manipulation and navigation.
- Develop new robot capabilities using ROS 2 (Jazzy).
- Expand simulation-based tests and CI pipelines to validate changes before they reach hardware.
- Evaluate estimation and perception performance on real robot data and contribute fixes.
- Document algorithms, test approaches, and integration patterns.
What you'll need#
- In-progress Master's degree (preferred) or a strong senior-year Bachelor's in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python or C++.
- Coursework or project experience in controls, estimation, localization, SLAM, or robot control.
- Familiarity with state estimation and sensor fusion, such as Kalman filtering.
- Strong foundation in linear algebra and probability.
- Comfort working in Git and Linux environments.
- Experience writing well-tested code.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively across a multidisciplinary team.
- Availability for the full spring co-op term.
- Bonus points for experience with ROS 2 (Jazzy), OpenCV, camera calibration, Gazebo, or GitHub Actions.
