Lila Sciences is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join the Hardware and Controls team for the summer 2026 term. This role involves designing, building, and testing hardware used in autonomous scientific discovery. You will work alongside experimental scientists, AI/ML researchers, and software engineers to develop systems that support life and physical science applications.
What you'll do#
- Design and engineer components ranging from bench-scale robotics to full-size lab automation workcells.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on CAD design and analysis.
- Create and test engineered solutions, including static fixtures and multi-axis motion assemblies, using 3D printing and various fabrication methods.
- Support assembly and build processes under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Take ownership of discrete project tasks from initial specification through to final delivery.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD design (Parts and Assemblies) or similar parametric 3D CAD software.
- Ability to balance input and collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- A proactive mindset and an eagerness to learn.
