About the role#
As a Maintenance Intern, you will support the electrical and instrumentation team at our Cedar Rapids facility. This role involves hands-on work with plant equipment, from motors and control panels to specialized sensors and instrumentation. You will assist in electrical upgrades, perform preventive maintenance, and help the mechanical department with repairs and adjustments.
What you'll do#
- Maintain and repair plant electrical equipment, including motors, transformers, VFD units, and control panels.
- Calibrate and service instruments like pH probes, flow meters, and pressure transmitters.
- Perform daily plant rounds to monitor critical instruments and complete weekly preventive maintenance tasks.
- Document your work by filling out report sheets and logging activities in our database.
- Use PLC interface software to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Assist with electrical projects, such as building control panels and running conduit.
- Communicate project progress using software tools like MAPCON and MS Outlook.
- Support the mechanical maintenance team with repairs and technical decisions.
- Follow all safety protocols and participate in site safety programs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate degree program for Industrial Maintenance or an active apprenticeship. Equivalent work experience is also accepted.
- A minimum of 2 years of field experience is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret PLC logic, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Experience using complex test equipment to diagnose electrical circuit issues.
- Proficiency with computers for daily tasks and reporting.
- Willingness to operate equipment including forklifts, man lifts, and various power tools.
- Ability to manage critical decision-making and handle occasional extended work hours.

- The role is on-site and part-time with a rolling term.
