About the role#
Laporte Industries is looking for a student to support business operations in our West Chester office. You will gain exposure to recruiting, onboarding, and general office management. This role starts with a focus on recruiting and grows to include ownership of various operational projects. We aim to provide hands-on experience and a potential path to full-time employment after graduation.
What you'll do#
Your responsibilities will shift based on office needs, but your core tasks include:
- Recruiting: Reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, and maintaining candidate records in Greenhouse.
- Onboarding and HR: Running new-hire checklists, coordinating IT setups, assisting with benefits enrollment, and drafting the monthly admin newsletter.
- Office Operations: Handling mail, processing invoices and checks, ordering supplies, and coordinating with vendors.
- Partner Projects: Tracking professional engineering licenses, managing laptop inventory, assisting with phone system updates, and planning team events.
- Process Improvement: Building trackers and tools using Excel and Microsoft 365 to improve office efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in a business field, or a science field with a business minor.
- Availability for 12-16 hours per week in our West Chester office, including at least three weekday blocks of four hours or more.
- Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Background in finance, HR, business law, or accounting through coursework or previous experience.
- Clear writing skills and strict attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Preferred: Experience with scheduling, records, or customer service, and familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude.
Location & details#
- Location: West Chester, Pennsylvania (on-site).
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Compensation: Paid position ($22-25/hour) with reimbursed parking and a subsidized cell phone plan.
- Status: Part-time.
