About the role#
Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027 in Arlington, Virginia. You will join our team to assist with technical aspects of diverse geotechnical projects. This role provides direct exposure to site feasibility studies, field work, technical reporting, and design plans.
What you'll do#
- Plan and execute field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, and performing field tests.
- Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities to monitor conformance with project plans and specifications.
- Prepare standard logs, field forms, and chain of custody documentation.
- Conduct site reconnaissance, file reviews, and document searches.
- Perform engineering calculations and learn to use geotechnical software.
- Create report exhibits, figures, and plans using AutoCAD.
- Author reports that document field investigations and analytical results.
- Identify and implement solutions to field or laboratory problems.
What you'll need#
- Active pursuit of a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Preference for students in their Junior or Senior year, or those pursuing an MS degree.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Coursework in geotechnical engineering is preferred.
