About the role#
Laclede Electric Co-Op Co is hiring an Engineering Intern to support the planning, design, and improvement of our electric distribution system. You will work alongside our engineering team to gain hands-on experience with utility operations and infrastructure. This position offers mentorship from experienced professionals and exposure to the full lifecycle of engineering projects from initial concept through construction.
What you'll do#
- Assist with overhead and underground electric distribution design.
- Participate in feeder planning, voltage analysis, protection coordination, and system improvement projects.
- Perform engineering calculations and technical analysis using utility software.
- Gain exposure to technologies including GIS, SCADA, and AMI.
- Conduct field staking, design verification, and construction inspections.
- Research engineering standards and equipment specifications.
- Prepare drawings, reports, and documentation to build technical communication skills.
- Collaborate with engineering personnel and other departments on project support.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred, though Civil, Mechanical, or other engineering students with an interest in utility systems are encouraged to apply.
- Completed coursework in engineering fundamentals.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in power systems, infrastructure design, and utility operations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to occasionally walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds, including navigating uneven terrain during field visits.
