About the role#
KLJ hires interns to support our civil engineering, surveying, planning, and construction teams. You will work on a variety of projects, gaining hands-on experience in the field and the office. This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship with rolling start dates.
What you'll do#
- Collect and analyze data for engineering and construction projects.
- Support field crews with surveying, site inspections, and construction observation.
- Prepare technical documents, reports, maps, and project exhibits.
- Use software like AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, or MicroStation to assist with project development.
- Manage GPS data and field measurements.
- Participate in site visits to track project progress.
- Assist with quality control reviews for plans and calculations.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, and project managers.
- Follow safety procedures and project requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program for Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, Environmental Engineering, Urban or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
- Interest in infrastructure, utilities, transportation, or construction.
- Basic knowledge of engineering, planning, or surveying principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or MicroStation is helpful but not required.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, standing, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Locations: West Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Forks, North Dakota; Eagan, Minnesota; Helena and Billings, Montana; Denver and Grand Junction, Colorado; Sioux Falls and Rapid City, South Dakota.
- Compensation: $18 to $25 per hour, depending on experience and education.
