About the role#
Kiwibot is hiring a Robotics Embedded Systems Intern to join the Autonomy Department in San Francisco. You will work on real-world robotics challenges and contribute to projects that advance the capabilities of delivery robots. You will collaborate with roboticists, hardware engineers, software developers, and machine learning experts to meet system requirements.
What you'll do#
- Design, test, and refine software for robotics and AI applications.
- Connect software, embedded hardware, and data pipelines into unified robotic solutions.
- Tune algorithms and improve system efficiency.
- Debug and solve issues ranging from firmware bugs to hardware malfunctions.
- Manage firmware, OS, dependencies, and over-the-air updates for robot fleets.
- Work with communication protocols for sensors, actuators, and robot boards.
- Maintain embedded firmware, manage containers, and support CI pipelines.
- Keep documentation and follow practices for privacy and security.
- Perform design analysis, system characterization, and controller design.
- Run test programs to deliver scalable and high-performing robots.
What you'll need#
- Programming proficiency in Python and C++.
- Experience with ROS or ROS2.
- Familiarity with Docker and Git.
- Knowledge of ARM architectures, IoT platforms, firmware management, and OTA updates.
- Experience integrating APIs and sensors such as 2D/3D LiDARs, stereo cameras, IMU, GPS/RTK, and regular cameras.
- Background in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering.

- This is an on-site position based in San Francisco, California.
- The role is full-time and paid.
