About the role#
The Law Clerk Intern program at Kemper offers students the opportunity to work on civil litigation matters that impact our clients. You will gain hands-on experience by supporting attorneys and paralegals throughout the litigation process, including discovery, depositions, and trial preparation. This program is designed to help you broaden your understanding of the business and build professional connections.
What you'll do#
- Assist attorneys with drafting discovery responses and reporting to claims.
- Draft pleadings and communicate with clients.
- Gather necessary documents and information to support case files.
- Perform legal research as needed.
- Prepare for mediations, arbitrations, and trial proceedings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a 2nd or 3rd year law student in an ABA-approved law school (4th year students in part-time or JD/MBA programs are also eligible).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Genuine interest in civil litigation, personal injury, and insurance law.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build effective professional relationships.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Location: San Jose, California.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (may require in-office attendance approximately once per month).
- Status: Paid, full-time position.
