About the role#
As a Construction Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with our field and operations teams. You will learn how commercial construction projects are planned, managed, and executed. You will work directly with Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, and skilled craft professionals on active job sites. This role involves a mix of physical construction work and project management tasks. We aim to provide insight into the many career paths within the construction industry. Interns are considered for future opportunities within our organization based on their performance.
What you'll do#
- Work as part of a Building Erection, Carpentry, or Concrete crew.
- Assist with day-to-day jobsite operations and project execution.
- Attend project meetings with owners, subcontractors, field leadership, and project teams.
- Support Foremen and Superintendents with planning, scheduling, and coordination of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and project plans with field leadership.
- Assist with steel and wood structure installation.
- Install roofing, insulation, wall systems, and other building components.
- Construct and install concrete forms for footings, walls, and slabs.
- Assist with concrete placement and finishing operations.
- Perform layout and installation of interior walls, doors, partitions, and related components.
- Observe and learn construction safety, quality control, and project management best practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Building Trades, or a related field.
- Strong interest in commercial construction and management.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- Comfortable working at heights, which is required for Building Erection projects.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel to project sites, primarily within Wisconsin.
- Ability to safely operate jobsite equipment and personnel lifts after receiving appropriate training.
