About the role#
The Director of Student Advocacy & IvyCares serves as a neutral and confidential resource for students at the East Chicago campus. You will help students navigate college policies, resolve academic or personal concerns, and address barriers that impact their success. This role combines student advocacy with the leadership of IvyCares, a program focused on providing wraparound support for basic needs like food, housing, and financial assistance.
What you'll do#
- Act as a primary point of contact for students to resolve academic and non-academic issues.
- Provide a safe, neutral space for students to share concerns and offer informal resolution strategies.
- Lead IvyCares by assessing student needs, developing individualized support plans, and managing resources like the campus food pantry.
- Oversee IvyCares intake, case coordination, and confidential recordkeeping.
- Deliver suicide prevention and QPR training to the campus community.
- Review incident reports and student complaints to identify patterns or policy gaps.
- Submit an End-of-Year Report summarizing themes, risks mitigated, and impacts on student retention.
- Manage the IvyCares budget and related requisitions.
- Build partnerships with faculty, staff, and community organizations to strengthen student support networks.
- Conduct 5-10 student appointments per week while promoting services through outreach and workshops.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Conflict Resolution, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in mediation, counseling, or student advocacy.
- A strong understanding of college policies and student services within higher education.
- Exceptional communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality, neutrality, and objectivity.
- Proficiency in identifying trends and making recommendations for policy or procedural improvements.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in East Chicago, Indiana.
- Some evening or weekend availability may be required for student events or training sessions.
- An official academic transcript is required upon hire.
