About the role#
This internship focuses on improving resource adequacy assessments for the New England power grid. You will join the Advanced Technology Solutions department to work on research projects and process improvements. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
What you'll do#
- Use the in-house Probabilistic Evaluation Tool for Resource Adequacy (PETRA) to support capacity requirement analysis and resource accreditation studies.
- Improve how models represent storage resources, uncertainty correlations, and fuel inventory.
- Apply data analytics, optimization, and programming to solve real-world grid reliability questions.
- Conduct research and design process improvements related to power system modeling and probabilistic analysis.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in power system engineering, electrical engineering, operations research, or a related field.
- Knowledge of power system resource adequacy concepts.
- Strong background in optimization, analytical methods, and technical problem solving.
- Programming skills with experience in Python and Gurobi.
- Experience with energy storage modeling is preferred.

- Compensation: $19 to $36 per hour, depending on your year in school.
