About the role#
This internship focuses on the challenges of a changing electric grid. You will use optimization, probability, and power system modeling to improve how operators plan for uncertainty from renewable energy and shifting electricity demand. You will work within the Advanced Technology Solutions department on projects that bridge the gap between long-term research and practical design improvements.
What you'll do#
- Model and solve optimal generation scheduling problems under conditions of high renewable and load uncertainty.
- Develop strategies to meet operational performance requirements in a real-world grid environment.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and power system operators to gain experience in an industrial setting.
- Build proofs of concept and software prototypes to support faster and more reliable operating decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a graduate degree in electrical engineering, power system engineering, or a related field. A PhD is preferred.
- A strong foundation in power system analysis, optimization techniques, probability, and statistics.
- Proficiency with Python, the Gurobi optimization solver, and PowerWorld simulation software.
- Curiosity and strong problem-solving skills, with an interest in applying advanced analytics to grid operations.
Location & details#
- Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts.
- Work modality: On-site.
