About the role#
The Youth & Education Intern supports the Youth and Education team by implementing the Student Support Volunteer Tutoring Program. This program connects community volunteers with recently resettled middle and high school students for weekly tutoring sessions. This position is suited for those interested in teaching, social work, or non-profit youth programming.
What you'll do#
- Identify students interested in the program by calling recently arrived families.
- Onboard and interview potential community volunteers.
- Match volunteers with eligible students based on demographic and location criteria.
- Coordinate initial meeting times between students, volunteers, and the program supervisor.
- Facilitate initial introduction meetings when available.
- Build positive relationships with refugee youth to foster a supportive environment.
- Expand program reach through outreach initiatives.
- Document and case note every step of the process in program databases.
- Provide monthly office support and reception coverage as needed.
What you'll need#
- Ability to accomplish tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to complete project goals.
- Successful completion of an IRC background check.
- Commitment to the full 10-week internship term at 10-15 hours per week.
- Relevant academic backgrounds include Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Human Resources, Communications, Public Health, Nursing, or Business Administration.
