Operations Intern

About the role#

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Operations Intern to provide essential support at our regional offices. This role focuses on front-desk operations, client services, and administrative assistance to ensure the smooth delivery of humanitarian programs. This is an unpaid, full-time, on-site position with rolling intake.

What you'll do#

• Perform reception duties, including greeting visitors and connecting them with the appropriate staff.
• Assess visitor documentation to determine eligibility for various programs.
• Schedule appointments for clients based on program eligibility requirements.
• Answer and direct incoming phone calls.
• Provide clerical and administrative support to office staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all organizational privacy policies.

What you'll need#

• Strong computer skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a diverse, cross-cultural environment.
• Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and a commitment to respecting the values and beliefs of refugee clients.
• Detail-oriented approach with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to learn about organizational history, policies, and global humanitarian efforts.
• Previous administrative experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in English is required; fluency in additional languages such as Arabic, Spanish, Dari, Pashto, French, Ukrainian, Russian, or Kiswahili is preferred.

• This position is based on-site in New York, New York, or Elizabeth, New Jersey.
• This is an unpaid internship.
