The Instructional Design Intern supports the Youth Education Programs in Elizabeth, NJ, by assisting the Youth Instructional Design Specialist with curriculum development and academic resource creation. This role focuses on supporting refugee and immigrant youth through initiatives like the Empower Tutoring and the Mini Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, helping students adapt to school environments and meet their educational goals.
What you'll do#
- Organize assessment data to develop staff training, educator toolkits, and curriculum design.
- Develop and administer pre-ELP (English Language Proficiency) assessments, and collect, record, and organize data for reporting.
- Assess and monitor students’ linguistic and social-emotional support needs.
- Support the creation and development of age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive case notes on a shared digital platform.
- Collaborate with teachers, interns, and volunteers to ensure high-quality learning experiences.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in ESOL, social work, education, public health, or related fields.
- Experience working with children and youth in educational or social programs.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with refugee and/or immigrant populations is highly desirable.
- Fluency in a second language is preferred, specifically Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Kiswahili, or Haitian Creole.

- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time (15–20 hours per week).
