About the role#
The International Rescue Committee in Denver provides defense representation and asylum services to hundreds of clients each year. Our legal team assists with humanitarian visas, family reunification, employment authorization, and naturalization. This unpaid internship offers law students and recent graduates the chance to gain professional experience in a social service setting while supporting our legal program.
What you'll do#
- Support attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives with client intake and enrollment.
- Prepare and file immigration applications and petitions.
- Maintain regular contact with clients and manage appointments with interpreters and pro bono attorneys.
- Facilitate client workshops, Know Your Rights presentations, and legal trainings.
- Assist with legal research and draft motions under attorney supervision.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic case files and enter data in a timely manner.
- Participate in outreach efforts to inform the community about immigration services.
What you'll need#
- Status as a current law student or recent graduate.
- Interest or experience in immigration law.
- Ability to commit to at least 25 hours per week during IRC office hours.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently under pressure with multiple deadlines.
- Excellent intercultural communication skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in English and the ability to handle sensitive client information with confidentiality.
- Computer literacy, with a preference for experience using PC systems.
- Flexibility to handle evolving responsibilities.
