About the role#
The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Intern supports the Intensive Case Management and Supplemental Case Management teams in Richmond, Virginia. This role assists vulnerable refugee clients, including those with severe health conditions, the elderly, and single-headed households, as they navigate their first five years of resettlement. The internship focuses on building client self-sufficiency and addressing barriers to health and wellness.
What you'll do#
- Assist with client check-ins via phone, video, or in person.
- Develop individualized plans with specific action steps based on client needs.
- Educate clients on U.S. healthcare and benefits systems.
- Provide transportation to appointments and attend appointments with clients.
- Coordinate with community partners and assist with internal and external referrals.
- Help clients navigate systems such as medical, mental health, education, and transportation.
- Maintain accurate case file documentation and organize digital files.
- Record hours and submit monthly timesheets via the online volunteer dashboard.
What you'll need#
- Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in working with the refugee community.
- Ability to be respectful of diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and values.
- Ownership of a car, a valid driver's license, and car insurance.
- Willingness to transport clients in a personal vehicle.
- Access to a computer and willingness to comply with organizational policies.
- Flexibility to accommodate client needs.
- Preferred majors include Public Health, Human Resources, Psychology, or Sociology.
