About the role#
The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Intern will support the Intensive Case Management and Supplemental Case Management teams in Richmond, Virginia. This role focuses on assisting refugee and displaced clients who face severe physical or mental health conditions, including the elderly, single-headed households, and victims of violence. The intern will work to address barriers to health and wellness while helping clients build self-sufficiency during their first five years of resettlement.
What you'll do#
- Assist with client check-ins via phone, in person, or video.
- Develop individualized plans with clear action steps based on client needs.
- Educate clients on U.S. healthcare and benefits systems.
- Provide transportation to appointments and attend appointments with clients.
- Communicate with community partners for case coordination and assist with referrals to outside organizations.
- Support clients with administrative tasks such as completing paperwork, bill payments, and navigating medical or educational systems.
- Maintain thorough case file documentation and organize digital client files.
- Record hours and submit timesheets monthly through the online dashboard.
What you'll need#
- Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in working with the refugee community.
- Respect for the varied backgrounds, beliefs, and values of clients.
- Ownership of a car, a valid driver's license, and car insurance.
- Willingness to transport clients in a personal vehicle.
- Access to a computer and a commitment to complying with IRC policies.
- Flexibility to accommodate client needs.
- Preferred majors include Public Health, Human Resources, Psychology, or Sociology.
