About the role#
The English Language Training Intern supports the Adult Education Specialist in planning and providing English language training classes for refugees and immigrants. This role focuses on helping new arrivals build confidence and skills in speaking, reading, and writing in English to improve their resource accessibility and employment opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Assist staff with the enrollment, coordination, and implementation of classes.
- Contact students to confirm their availability for upcoming sessions.
- Help navigate client barriers to education.
- Support teachers by preparing student materials.
- Coordinate with volunteers to ensure proper coverage for classes, including providing childcare support when needed.
- Collect data to support educational initiatives and student success.
- Communicate with local stakeholders to connect students to appropriate services.
- Adhere to organizational policies regarding confidentiality and client privacy.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate studies in education, social work, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to understanding diverse global backgrounds.
- Effective communication skills for a cross-global environment.
- Interest in learning about the mission and operations of the International Rescue Committee.
- Proficiency in more than one language is preferred but not required.
