    About the role#

    Intel's Foundry System Technology team is looking for a PhD intern to help advance semiconductor and packaging manufacturing. You will work on System Technology Co-optimisation (STCO) to push the boundaries of memory and logic stacking. This role involves evaluating 3D and 2.5D dis-aggregation schemes using solder microbumps or hybrid bonding.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop and improve STCO methodologies.
    • Perform system-level evaluations of novel devices, interconnects, materials, and integration schemes.
    • Collaborate with diverse teams to drive innovation across product architectures.

    What you'll need#

    • Active PhD candidacy in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Architecture, or a related field.
    • At least 1-2 years of research experience in system architecture modeling, digital circuit analysis, VLSI physical layout, electronic design automation, or multi-physics modeling.
    • Familiarity with IC design and physical layout tools like Cadence Virtuoso or Synopsis Fusion Compiler.
    • Preferred experience includes system architecture design, IC tapeout, DRAM/SRAM circuit design, integrated circuits manufacturing, 3DIC simulation, and Python programming.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Hillsboro, Oregon; Santa Clara, California; or Austin, Texas.
    • This is a full-time, paid internship with a hybrid work model.
    • The term is rolling, with a minimum commitment of 3 months during summer 2026.
