About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a contemporary veterinary practice to support your professional development. You will work alongside a veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction, guidance, and a final written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care for a small animal practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases.
- Providing wellness care.
- Scrubbing into surgeries.
- Developing client communication and technical skills.
- Producing accurate medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to the ethical standards of the practice.
