About the role#
Humane World for Animals is seeking two Veterinary Technician Interns for the Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas. This 12-week, full-time internship runs from December 7, 2026, to February 26, 2027. This role is designed for students or recent graduates of a Veterinary Technician program who want experience with equine, domestic hoofstock, primates, and exotic animals. On-site housing is provided for the duration of the program.
What you'll do#
- Assist with medical procedures, anesthesia, and rechecks.
- Perform laboratory and diagnostic tests under supervision.
- Conduct research on specific species.
- Maintain, prepare, and stock medical instruments and supplies.
- Manage general housekeeping and follow opening and closing checklists.
- Set up and clean up after medical procedures.
- Unbox shipments and log inventory.
- Drive the department SUV to transport medical supplies on and off the property.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a 2 or 4-year Veterinary Technician program.
- At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
- A valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis test.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
- Ability to work well within a team and take initiative on projects.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to following directions.
- Personal phone for communication.
- Prior experience handling equine, farmed animals, or wildlife is helpful.
- Tetanus and pre-exposure rabies vaccinations are recommended.
- Must wear closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes.
