About the role#
The Advanced Computing and Storage Lab in Vancouver explores adaptive computing system architectures to handle variable application loads. This 8 to 12 month internship focuses on the Ascend platform. You will analyze system bottlenecks and design optimization solutions for AI training and inference. The team works to ensure the stability and quality of training clusters while building precision control systems.
What you'll do#
- Advance the performance, efficiency, and usability of AI systems on the Ascend platform.
- Design and develop optimization solutions for AI training and inference, including FP8 optimization, RL-driven training agents, and multimodal reinforcement learning.
- Integrate AI algorithm requirements with system-level architectural optimizations in computing, I/O, scheduling, and precision control.
- Build stable, efficient AI training clusters through dynamic configuration and precision control.
- Develop software frameworks, operator libraries, and acceleration libraries for NPU platforms.
- Stay current with research in AI computing cluster architecture design, training acceleration, and inference acceleration.
What you'll need#
- Current Ph.D or Masters student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields like automation, electronics, or robotics.
- Familiarity with common large model structures such as Deepseek and Llama.
- Technical background in large model training and inference optimization within LLM, MoE, or multimodal fields.
- Knowledge of hardware architecture and programming systems for AI accelerators like GPU or NPU.
- Experience optimizing AI systems with coordinated software and hardware cores.
- Strong programming foundation in Python, C, or C++.
- Experience developing AI training frameworks or AI reasoning engines.
- Ability to research new technologies and architectures independently.
Location & details#
- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (On-site).
- Duration: 8 to 12 months.
- Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: $78,000 to $150,000 annually, based on a 2080-hour year, depending on education and experience.
