Howard Center offers graduate-level internships for students in mental health and developmental fields. These roles are designed to provide students with instruction and practical experience in human services while fulfilling their degree requirements. Interns are paired with supervisors based on program needs and the specific services provided to clients. Opportunities may be school-based, community-based, residential, or clinical, focusing on individuals with mental health, substance use, and developmental needs.
What you'll do#
Responsibilities vary based on the specific program and educational requirements. Interns may:
- Provide supportive counseling or therapy in individual, group, school, or community settings.
- Perform clinical documentation and record-keeping.
- Assist with assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, crisis intervention, and stabilization.
- Implement academic, behavioral, and social programming tailored to client needs.
- Participate in treatment teams, referrals, and follow-up care.
- Shadow staff members and assist with special projects.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a program supported by an active affiliation agreement with Howard Center.
- Adherence to requirements defined by the educational contract with your school, which outlines goals, objectives, duration, supervision, and documentation expectations.

- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be students at institutions with an active affiliation agreement with Howard Center. Summer internships are not granted unless the student is already placed and the duration falls within summer months.
