About the role#
As an Engineering Intern at Hörmann, you will support projects from their initial concept through to final launch. You will work on-site in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, to improve manufacturing efficiency and help maintain plant equipment standards. This is a full-time, paid position that offers hands-on experience in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Support new and existing projects, including design, feasibility, and budget tracking.
- Perform time studies and develop standard operating procedures.
- Design solutions to improve production processes, ergonomics, and economic viability.
- Participate in equipment design reviews, buy-offs, and process evaluations.
- Ensure all equipment meets Pre-Start Health and Safety Review requirements.
- Analyze work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout to boost manufacturing efficiency.
- Engage in Kaizen events and lean manufacturing initiatives like 5S and Visual Management.
- Participate in ISO activities such as PFMEA, control plans, and APQP.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes including fabrication, assembly, and tooling.
- Assist the management team with capacity planning and bottleneck analysis.
- Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and report any hazards or incidents.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a Mechanical or Industrial Engineering program.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and knowledge of machining methods.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP software.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Familiarity with CAD software like AutoCAD or Solidworks is an asset.
