About the role#
Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates is hiring a Geotechnical College Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Hagerstown, Maryland. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position. Interns work under supervision or alongside staff on various engineering projects. We offer two levels of internships based on your current academic standing. Freshmen and Sophomores focus on field tasks, while Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students balance field work with office-based technical assignments.
What you'll do#
- Observe construction sites and perform field testing.
- Sample and test construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and structural steel.
- Document test results accurately.
- Assist with report creation and soil classification.
- Support technical tasks as directed by professional staff.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Geology, or related engineering program.
- Ability to lift and move up to 60-80 pounds, such as concrete samples or gauges.
- A valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a satisfactory driving record.
- Proficiency with basic math and measurement tools.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet all pre-employment hiring requirements.
