About the role#
As a Machining Co-op student, you will build practical shop experience while contributing to manufacturing work at Unifiller in Richmond, British Columbia. You will work with experienced team members to learn how quality parts are made, from the initial drawing to the finished product. This role supports the design and construction of equipment used in food production environments.
What you'll do#
- Select tools, machines, and materials by following drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
- Machine parts using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment.
- Measure, inspect, and test completed work with micrometers, verniers, and other precision instruments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering information.
- Support welding and fabrication work by following drawings, bills of materials, and specifications.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area using required safety equipment and procedures.
- Assist with training and general shop tasks when needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the CNC Machinist program at BCIT.
- Basic knowledge of machining tools, equipment, and shop practices.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, bills of materials, and written instructions.
- Mechanical and mathematical aptitude for working with measurements, tolerances, and part specifications.
- Openness to learning, asking questions, and applying feedback.
- Ability to stay organized, manage time, and work in a shop environment.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Capacity to work independently with appropriate guidance.
- Professional attitude and the ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
