About the role#
Highlands Animal Hospital offers an externship program for veterinary students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your transition from the classroom to clinical practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the guidance of a mentor doctor to meet your specific learning objectives or those required by your college curriculum. At the end of your rotation, your mentor will provide a written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
You will participate in the daily operations of our practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Managing a typical small animal caseload.
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Assisting with medical case management and providing wellness care.
- Scrubbing into surgeries.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
- Developing your client communication and technical skills.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
Location & details#
- Location: Sparta, New Jersey.
- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: Flexible rotations ranging from two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
