STUDENT EXTERN III

About the role#

The Student Extern III functions as a member of the healthcare team, delivering direct nursing care to patients within an acute care environment. This role operates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and performs duties based on clinical experience, competency, and hospital policies. This is a paid, on-site position.

What you'll do#

• Conduct patient assessments and reassessments, communicating findings to the care team.
• Perform treatments, interventions, and administer medications as directed.
• Provide patient education and holistic, patient-centered nursing care.
• Utilize the nursing process to identify and meet patient needs.
• Document health data and care provided in the electronic medical record accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the care team.
• Maintain clinical equipment and assist with unit tasks to ensure a safe environment.

What you'll need#

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and eligibility to take the Indiana State Board of Nursing Licensure Examination.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Specialized training in phlebotomy, EKG, and telemetry interpretation.
• Ability to demonstrate technical skills and follow instructions accurately.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and assist in transferring patients.
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced setting.
