About the role#
The Undergraduate Capital Improvement Planning Intern supports the development of portfolio level risk management tools for the Capital Improvement Program. You will gain hands-on experience with project delivery, risk identification, and program-level reporting. This role involves working closely with the CIP group to gather risk information, integrate data, and produce analyses that inform leadership decisions.
What you'll do#
- Create dashboards, reports, and presentations to communicate risk insights.
- Collect, organize, and update risk, schedule, and budget data.
- Participate in risk identification and quantification workshops, documenting key outcomes.
- Conduct structured interviews with subject matter experts to validate qualitative risk factors.
- Support the development and testing of Program Management Information System features.
- Join field visits with the CIP group to observe infrastructure operations and risk drivers.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an associate, bachelor, or master degree program at an accredited institution.
- Classification as a rising sophomore or higher in good standing.
- Enrollment in a related field such as engineering, construction management, business analytics, or data science.
- Ability to work at least 20 hours per week.
- Commitment to the position for a minimum of two months.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Interest in project controls, risk management, or data-driven problem solving.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams.
Location & details#
This position is based at the administrative offices of the Water Resource Recovery Facility in Detroit, Michigan. The role is eligible for hybrid work if you have a reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace.
