About the role#
As a Summer Intern, you will support the safety team in maintaining a safe work environment on heavy civil construction projects. This role provides exposure to construction safety practices, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day field operations. You will work with project teams and safety professionals to learn how safety is integrated into project execution.
What you'll do#
- Monitor safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Participate in site walks, inspections, and safety audits to identify and report potential hazards.
- Support the documentation of safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training sessions.
- Review and update site-specific safety plans.
- Learn incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Support the coordination of drug testing and safety certifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and crews on safety matters.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong interest in safety and heavy civil construction.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eagerness to work in a hands-on, outdoor environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work in a team setting.
- Basic computer skills, with a preference for Microsoft Office experience.
- Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
