About the role#
This internship introduces students to creative careers at General Motors and helps identify talent for future clay sculpting positions. You will gain experience with the aesthetic judgments, technology, production methods, and materials used in automotive clay sculpting. You will work alongside Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams in a studio environment.
What you'll do#
- Interpret sketches to develop clay scale models of future automotive themes.
- Apply established and emerging clay-sculpting techniques.
- Present finished models to Design and Sculpting leadership during midterm and final show events.
- Assist with general sculpting assignments within the studio.
What you'll need#
- Pursuit of a bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, Sculpture, or Ceramics.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the summer months.
- A 3D portfolio demonstrating creative ability.
- A basic understanding of design and sculpting principles like proportion, line, and surface.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Knowledge of current design trends and a commitment to studio safety guidelines.

Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship with a monthly salary of $6,100.
- The role is strictly on-site in either Warren, Michigan, or Pasadena, California.
- The program term is Summer 2027, with start dates in May and June 2027.
