About the role#
This summer program offers optometry students practical experience within a clinic environment. You will work alongside professionals to expand your clinical knowledge and gain insight into different business models, including retail-focused operations. The program runs for 16 weeks, from May 3 to August 20, 2027. Participants are expected to work 3 to 5 days per week for a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks.
What you'll do#
- Rotate through all clinic roles, from reception and preliminary testing to optical services.
- Assist patients with navigation through the clinic.
- Observe doctor schedules and understand their impact on clinic operations.
- Apply university knowledge to real-world scenarios.
- Learn the essentials of optical practice, including frame adjustments and matching frames to specific prescriptions.
- Potentially shadow an optometrist.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the first, second, or third year of a North American optometry program.
- Strong communication skills and active listening.
- An eagerness to learn and openness to coaching.
- Ability to pass an academic background check.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship.
