About the role#
Firelands Health is hiring a Pharmacy Intern in Sandusky, Ohio. This is a full-time, paid position with a rolling term. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist to prepare and dispense medications while maintaining hospital pharmacy operations.
What you'll do#
- Compound and prepare medications, including sterile products and chemotherapy, using aseptic techniques.
- Fill physician orders, medication carts, surgical kits, and emergency crash carts.
- Procure, distribute, and deliver medications to patient care areas.
- Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, and rotating stock to identify outdated drugs.
- Operate pharmacy automation systems, including Pyxis and pre-packaging machines.
- Process patient charge documents and utilize pharmacy computer systems for billing and reporting.
- Maintain pharmacy records, logs, and documentation.
- Answer telephone and window inquiries while directing requests to appropriate personnel.
- Clean equipment and maintain organized pharmacy areas.
- Conduct quality monitors and participate in data collection.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active Pharmacy Intern license in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
- Certification as a pharmacy technician.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and read small letters and numbers.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision and organize daily tasks.
- Compliance with OSHA regulations, USP 797 standards, and CDC precaution recommendations.
- Ability to use personal protective equipment and follow S.D.S. protocols.
- Successful completion of a ninety-day probationary period.
