FieldAI is seeking a PhD intern for Summer 2026 to focus on humanoid manipulation. This role bridges the gap between robotics research and applied engineering, requiring you to develop manipulation capabilities for humanoid robots that support broader autonomy and learning efforts. You will collaborate with research scientists and engineers to design experiments and test systems on real robotic hardware.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and evaluate manipulation strategies for humanoid robots across diverse tasks.
- Translate research concepts into working robotic systems tested on real hardware.
- Develop experimental setups and tooling to support data collection and performance evaluation.
- Build and maintain data collection pipelines used to train robotics foundation models.
- Rapidly prototype, execute experiments on hardware, and perform rigorous analysis of results.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate manipulation data into scalable learning frameworks.
What you'll need#
- Current PhD student in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, AI/ML, or a closely related field.
- Research experience in robotic manipulation, loco-manipulation, or related domains.
- Strong foundation in robot kinematics, dynamics, and control.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++, with experience using robotics or machine learning tooling.
- Experience designing experiments and evaluating results on robotic systems, either in simulation or on hardware.
