About the role#
FieldAI is seeking a Robotics Controls Intern to join the autonomy team. This role focuses on the integration of hardware and software for autonomous systems operating in demanding, real-world environments. You will work directly with senior engineers to address control challenges for large-scale, off-road vehicles, helping to transition advanced control theory into field-deployable products.
What you'll do#
- Model system dynamics and optimize GPU-accelerated control libraries.
- Develop computationally constrained control schemes for heterogeneous platforms.
- Design and implement low-latency safety layers for both tele-operated and fully autonomous modes.
- Apply control algorithms to physical robots in real-world, unstructured environments.
- Perform system identification and train learning models for robotic platforms.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. or Master’s degree program in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on control systems.
- Deep theoretical and practical experience with advanced control methodologies, specifically predictive and sampling-based control such as MPPI or MPC.
- Proficiency in GPU programming with CUDA and a track record of optimizing algorithms for real-time execution.
- Strong software engineering skills in C++ and Python for developing deployable robotics code.
- Practical experience with Linux, ROS1/2, and Docker.
