About the role#
Feeding Tampa Bay offers internships within the Neighbor Services program to help community members navigate social services. You will be placed into one of three tracks: Generalist, Workforce Development, or Macro Social Work. Placements are based on your specific degree requirements and a mutual agreement with your field supervisor. This is a hands-on role where you will work directly with our team to support neighbors facing financial crises.
What you'll do#
- Learn the daily operations of the Neighbor Services team, including intake and service provision.
- Monitor the Neighbor Helpline and respond to inquiries about our programs.
- Provide SNAP application assistance and outreach support at various community locations.
- Engage with programs like Pathways to Prosperity and Baby Formula + Essentials.
- Maintain detailed notes in our internal data collection systems.
- Discuss workforce development services and career pathways with neighbors.
- Connect neighbors to job training, resume reviews, and mock interviews.
- Assist with scheduling, tracking, and documenting neighbor referrals.
- Support the development and execution of programs through research and systematic evaluations.
- Partner with leadership to support organizational strategy and quality-assurance auditing.
- Participate in weekly supervision and assist staff with special projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an educational program focused on social work, social services, human services, or counseling. Other fields are considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally.
- Comfort communicating with clients in person and over the phone, including making cold calls.
- Experience or ability to work in low-income, culturally diverse community settings.
- Understanding of the barriers faced by individuals and families seeking assistance.
- Ability to work well with seniors, children, families, and non-English speaking populations.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn and use Google Suite.
- Reliability in meeting deadlines and maintaining agreed-upon work hours.
