This unpaid internship offers Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner students the opportunity to work within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) model. Under the supervision of an MD or DO, interns provide medication services and outpatient care for medical and psychiatric clients. This role involves participating in inpatient care teams and assisting with management as requested, while adhering to State of Oklahoma Scope of Practice Guidelines.
What you'll do#
- Conduct psychiatric assessments, including reviews of psychiatric history, mental status examinations, and DSM-V diagnoses.
- Provide pharmacological management assessments, prescribe psychotropic medications, monitor for side effects, and educate consumers on medication compliance.
- Deliver office-based opioid treatment, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and withdrawal management.
- Document consumer progress in the electronic health record within the same day of service.
- Act as a liaison between the organization and hospital or emergency treatment facilities to coordinate inpatient care.
- Participate in treatment planning meetings and provide support to families regarding mental illness and treatment processes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with a psychiatry specialty.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
- National certification by an appropriate certifying body.
- Previous experience in mental health is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

- Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time with rolling start dates. Normal office hours apply, with the potential for evening or weekend clinics based on consumer needs.
- Safety-Sensitive Position: This role is classified as a safety-sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and is subject to drug and alcohol testing.
