DVM/VMD Extern

About the role#

Fairfax Animal Hospital is seeking a DVM/VMD student extern to join our team in Falls Church, Virginia. We provide full-service companion animal care and urgent care services to the community. Externs will receive mentorship from experienced veterinarians with interests in exotics, soft tissue surgery, wellness care, and basic orthopedic surgery.

What you'll do#

• Provide support in the veterinary care and treatment of animals.
• Participate in surgical procedures under the supervision of experienced staff.
• Assist with diagnostics and emergency care.
• Engage with clients and provide education on animal care.
• Collaborate with veterinary team members to ensure excellent patient care.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an AVMA accredited Veterinary School (VMD or DVM degree path).
• A strong interest in gaining experience in animal care and emergency medicine.
• A willingness to learn from experienced veterinarians.
• Ability to work with a variety of animal species.
• A compassionate and caring attitude toward animals.

• Compensation: This is a paid externship that includes a stipend to offset housing and travel costs.
• Schedule: Full-time.
