About the role#
The Applied AI/ML Science team builds the models that power our wholesale marketplace. We focus on shipping and fulfillment, including predicting delivery estimates and understanding products through images and text. You will work on projects that help independent retailers compete with large stores by giving them better data and insights.
What you'll do#
You will own a focused project in one of our core areas. You might predict how an order is packed, recommend ways to improve packing efficiency, or infer physical product characteristics from catalog data. Your workflow includes:
- Surveying literature to identify promising ideas.
- Prototyping and training models offline while benchmarking against current methods.
- Building the strongest approach into a working implementation.
- Collaborating with Applied Scientists and ML Engineers to test models against live traffic.
- Presenting your findings and recommendations to the team.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience building deep learning models (e.g., PyTorch), specifically with images, text, or both.
- Experience fine-tuning pre-trained models or working with embeddings.
- Familiarity with gradient-boosted trees and other tabular ML methods.
- Strong Python and SQL skills.
- Ability to read research papers and turn concepts into working code.
- Solid grounding in statistics, model evaluation, and uncertainty estimation.
- Comfort working with noisy or incomplete real-world data.
- Enthusiasm for tackling ambiguous problems and learning new tools.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship for Winter 2027.
