About the role#
As an Applied Science Intern, you will work on machine learning projects that impact how people search for and experience travel. You will join a team to build pipelines, prototype new models, and apply techniques to services that handle high volumes of traffic. This program includes mentorship, professional development workshops, and opportunities to showcase your work to leadership.
What you'll do#
- Design, prototype, and evaluate machine learning models with guidance from experienced scientists.
- Write clean, maintainable training and inference code using standard software engineering practices.
- Participate in system design, API design, and data modeling for features powered by machine learning.
- Explore, analyze, and prepare data using statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Collaborate with peers, data scientists, engineers, and product partners to define success metrics and iterate on solutions.
- Learn to work with AI-driven systems and apply machine learning concepts to real-world products.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and July 2028.
- Availability for one of the two program windows: May 24th - July 30th or June 21st - August 27th.
- Proficiency in Python, Scala, or SQL.
- No more than 2 years of professional experience.
- Ability to relocate to the internship city if outside commuting distance.
- Graduation from a university located in the same country as the internship site.
- Theoretical knowledge of machine learning topics like Regression, Naïve Bayes, Deep Learning, Gradient Boosting, Random Forests, SVMs, or Neural Networks is helpful.
- Experience with R, Java, C++, Hive, Hadoop, or Microsoft SQL Server is a plus.
- Familiarity with distributed computing, cloud platforms like AWS, or data processing techniques is beneficial.

- Locations: Seattle, WA; Austin, TX; or San Jose, CA.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Compensation: $52 per hour in Seattle and Austin; $55 per hour in San Jose.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
