As an Engineering Intern at Estes Energy, you will join a technical team working on zero-emission power systems for commercial vehicles and equipment. Interns are expected to perform real engineering work, taking ownership of a defined project and driving it to a measurable result by the end of the term. You will work alongside senior engineers to design, build, and test components while applying first-principles thinking.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the design, build, and test of components or subsystems, including mechanical, electrical, controls, battery, manufacturing, or systems engineering.
- Develop and run experiments to test hypotheses and use data to inform project decisions.
- Create tools, models, fixtures, or analyses to improve team efficiency.
- Document technical work and present findings to the team.
- Take ownership of a specific project to drive progress toward a measurable outcome.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Materials, Manufacturing, Systems, Material Science, Metallurgy, or a related engineering field.
- A bias toward building, supported by experience in hands-on projects, labs, research, or build teams.
- Comfort with experimentation, data analysis, and maintaining data integrity.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and collaborate directly with others.
- A curious and rigorous approach to problem-solving, including the ability to challenge assumptions.

- Location: San Francisco, California (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (September through December).
- Employment: Paid, full-time internship.
