About the role#

The Algebra Bar Tutor position at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School involves providing targeted instruction to small groups of 9th-grade students. This role focuses on helping students master specific algebraic concepts and build the academic habits necessary for success in their mathematics coursework.

What you'll do#

• Tutor recurring small groups of 9th graders on specific high school algebra topics.
• Collaborate with the Math Coach to review and internalize lesson plans and materials before instruction.
• Establish rapport with students while maintaining a goal-oriented approach.
• Support students in developing effective study habits and academic skills.
• Score and record exit assessments following each tutoring session.
• Review student performance data regularly with the Math Coach.

What you'll need#

• Comfort with 9th-grade algebra, including multi-step linear equations, linear expressions, function notation, graphing, exponential expressions, and factoring basic quadratic expressions.
• Confidence in facilitating small group instruction; previous tutoring experience is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse students and families.
• Strong time and task management skills.
• Proficiency with Google Suite and online learning platforms.
• A belief that positive academic mindsets motivate student persistence and performance.
• Spanish language skills are considered a plus.
