About the role#
DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital offers externships for fourth-year veterinary students. This program is for students interested in our post-graduation rotating internship or ECC residency. You will work in a non-profit, AAHA-accredited, and VECCS Level 1-certified teaching hospital. We operate out of a facility equipped with a 3 Tesla MRI and 64-slice CT.
What you'll do#
Externs spend two weeks observing our specialty hospital. You will work on the floor four days a week with shifts lasting 10 to 12 hours. The rotation focuses on ER and ICU observations. You will learn directly from our staff doctors. Please note that this is an observational program and does not replace graded preceptorships. We verify attendance for independent study credits but do not provide university evaluations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a fourth-year student at an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Willingness to sign a liability waiver.

- Location: Portland, Oregon.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling applications, with rotations starting every other Monday (excluding June and late December).
- Employment: Full-time and paid.
