The Controls Engineer Co-Op supports the design and construction of food and beverage processing facilities. This role involves working closely with process, packaging, and building engineers to assist with the startup, commissioning, and qualification of production lines and equipment. You will be expected to maintain a regular on-site presence at client facilities to perform diagnostics and troubleshooting.
What you'll do#
- Design and troubleshoot software and hardware for control systems using PLCs.
- Automate manufacturing processes through instrumentation and control systems.
- Develop new PLC applications, interfaces, and embedded controls.
- Troubleshoot system malfunctions, resolve issues, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Document technical specifications and operating procedures.
- Design, specify, and procure control panel and electrical equipment.
- Interface with and manage installation contractors during construction projects.
- Research automation and controls materials and industry best practices.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 0-3 years of experience or schooling with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, GE Fanuc, or Honeywell Systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
- 0-3 years of experience or schooling in industrial manufacturing settings.
- Experience with Visual Basic, SQL, or MS ACCESS database programming is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Duluth, Georgia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Travel: Up to 50% travel is required to visit project sites.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and prolonged periods of standing or walking during site commissioning and startup.
