About the role#
Dematic is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern or Co-Op to join the Customer Service Modernizations and Upgrades group. This role focuses on supporting senior engineers with the design, testing, and commissioning of material handling systems. You will perform basic tasks within your field, seek guidance on nonroutine issues, and identify and resolve straightforward problems as they arise. This is a paid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design of routine systems that integrate hardware and software.
- Support the start-up, commissioning, and testing of material handling systems.
- Assist with software PLC emulation and testing.
- Help recommend ideas for productivity improvement, cost reduction, and increased customer satisfaction.
- Support lead engineers with project documentation and general tasks.
- Communicate project status and technical details effectively through written and verbal channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS or BA program in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Capacity to learn and demonstrate proficiency with internal systems such as CAD and SAP.
- Basic knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices.
- Up to 4 years of experience in a related field.
- Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider) is preferred but not required.

- Travel: This position requires 40-50% travel to customer locations within the United States.
