About the role#
As a Tax Intern, you will gain hands-on experience by working alongside experienced tax preparers and accountants. This role provides exposure to tax compliance, accounting, and administrative functions within a professional services environment. You will contribute to real client work and build practical skills to help prepare for your future career.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of individual and business tax returns under supervision.
- Organize and review financial documents for accuracy.
- Conduct basic tax research on federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Enter and reconcile transactions in accounting software.
- Maintain and update client records in both digital and physical formats.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for client files.
- Provide clerical support including scanning, filing, and data entry.
- Assist the team with daily tasks, projects, and staff meetings.
- Shadow experienced staff to learn best practices and participate in software training.
- Ensure the confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal information.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Junior or Senior year student with strong academic standing.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in tax administration work or equivalent is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, paid internship.
- Locations: South Milwaukee, WI; Brookfield, WI; or Bellville, TX.
- Schedule: 15 to 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling available.
- Compensation: $17 to $19 per hour.
- This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
