About the role#
Dallas Independent School District offers a graduate practicum for students pursuing Orientation and Mobility Therapy. You will gain clinical experience while working under the supervision of a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This is a full-time, paid position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Work directly with visually impaired students who qualify for therapy.
- Help develop and implement individualized service plans.
- Document student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with formal and informal Orientation and Mobility evaluations by gathering data and interpreting results.
- Write reports and determine support strategies with your supervisor.
- Consult with teachers, parents, and school staff to share recommendations for home and classroom strategies.
- Attend team meetings to discuss student progress.
- Provide input during ARD meetings and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Communicate student progress to the ARD committee.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a graduate program for Orientation and Mobility Therapy.
- Completion of the Practicum Public Agreement between Dallas ISD and your university.
- A signed data-sharing agreement to maintain student confidentiality.
- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
