About the role#
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office offers a volunteer internship for the Spring 2027 term. Interns work alongside an Assistant State’s Attorney within the Cook County Court System. This program provides hands-on experience in a legal environment. You will receive guidance and mentorship throughout the session.
What you'll do#
- Perform legal research and write memos on pending legal issues.
- Draft motions, answers, and various legal filings.
- Assist with the preparation of discovery.
- Handle other tasks as assigned by your supervising attorney.
What you'll need#
- You must be an active student in good standing.
- You cannot be on academic probation.
- Preference is given to students currently pursuing a Juris Doctor.
- The role involves sedentary work, which may include lifting up to 10 pounds and occasional walking or standing to manage files.

- This position is located in Chicago, Illinois.
- The work is on-site only.
- This is a full-time, unpaid volunteer internship.
- The term runs from January 11 to May 14, 2027, with flexible start and end dates within that window.
