This position is based at the Goderich Salt Mine, an underground facility located in Goderich, Ontario. Reporting to the Lead Ground Control Engineer, you will support the Engineering Department with ground control, rock mechanics, and planning activities. This is a full-time, on-site summer internship for the 2026 season.
What you'll do#
- Install and maintain rock mechanics instrumentation in underground excavations.
- Collect, format, and analyze data from underground rock mechanics instruments.
- Collaborate on the inspection of underground conditions and draft rehabilitation plans.
- Conduct weekly mine-wide ventilation surveys to diagnose issues and develop corrective actions.
- Assist the planning group with scheduling, drafting, surveying, and other technical tasks.
- Perform weekly face surveys, provide lines for drilling, and conduct total station surveys.
- Complete monthly audits of underground openings to assess roof and wall conditions.
- Coordinate with mine operations personnel for equipment and installation requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary Mine Engineering Technologist or Technician program, with plans to return to school in Fall 2026.
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- AutoCAD skills are highly desirable.
- Ability to work in elevated man lifts up to 60 feet above the mine floor.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Goderich, Ontario, Canada.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.
- Work Modality: On-site at the underground salt mine.
